5 Reasons Why Rewarding Yourself Makes You a Better Writer

Just a Sweet Treat
Writing is a hard and lonely activity. You can put countless hours into your story and have to toss out the entire thing because it just wasn’t working. It might even turn out that people might not even get to read it.
Even though you might feel like you are failing here are some reasons why you should treat yourself as a writer.
5 Reasons Why You Should Reward Yourself
Creates Discipline
Like I mentioned above writing can be hard especially when you are in it alone. Often times this makes writers stop writing. But rewarding yourself with a little treat can create self discipline which is definitely needed to finish writing an entire story.
Consistency
One of the hardest parts about writing is not the writing itself, but the time you put towards it. Having a reward waiting at the end of consistent writing sessions not only gets your story done faster, but builds a routine you can keep using moving forward.
Boosts Creativity
We all love a good story with a twist ending. But those can only be good when you have a creative mind. Rewarding yourself makes you think through the problems your story might be facing at a faster rate, boosting your creativity and knocking out an amazing story.
Increases Goal Setting
Goal setting is so important not just with writing, but with life in general. When you create a reward system for yourself and follow through with it your goal setting skills increase and can be used for other aspects of life.
Less Intimidating
When you know you have a prize you want, or are determined to get, writing a chapter may go from extremely hard to extremely easy in a blink of an eye. Writing a story can be intimidating, but when you have something to look forward to at the end of a writing session writing your story isn’t as hard.
Where to Start
Now knowing the positives of rewarding yourself while you write your next story, what are the next steps? It’s easy!
A Reward System
Create a reward system that works for you. This can be something small to something large you have been wanting. This can include a chocolate bar for every chapter you write, a coffee after every 10,000 words, or a spa day once the book is complete. Whatever fits in your budget with your desires.
Timeline
Set a timeline for finishing your goals. This will help delay the inevitable. When you have a timeline it will push you further and ensure you receive the reward you want.
Accountability
Lastly, don’t reward yourself if you didn’t meet your goals expectations! The whole point of the reward system is to make sure you are completing your story in a fun way, but don’t take advantage of it. If you don’t get a reward that’s okay! Either reset expectations or move onto the next. But don’t forget to celebrate the things you have accomplished during that time.
