First Finding a Partner
When I first began my writing journey, I spent many nights alone doing my thing, but after a while I realized I was stuck and didn't have anyone to turn to when it came time for help.
So instead of dwelling, I called a friend and set up a time each week where we would write and talk about our stories. It was so much fun to see what we were working on and a great motivation to keep going.
Here's some reasons you should get a writing partner if you don't already have one!
Staying on Track
If you have a deadline when it comes to your writing, a check-in with your partner is needed. Giving yourself weekly writing goals is not only a great way for you to stay on track but let's your partner know if you've been doing the work. Pick a day that works for you both to check-in. How many words did you write, or how many chapters did you edit? If you aren't hitting your goals maybe there is a small punishment your writing partner can include to keep you on track. If you are excelling, then set up a reward system!
Writing Style
Each of us have our own writing styles. For certain types of stories it can be good while for others it can be bad. With a writing partner they can read your work early on to see if you are on the right page when it comes to voice and the flow of the writing. Having this done early can prevent you from wasting hours of time and energy in the long run.
Plotting and Ideas
Sometimes it's hard to step back from your work. When that happens, it can be hard to come up with new ideas or plot lines for your story. Getting together with your writing partner to bounce ideas around can be super helpful and take your story to the next level.
You Aren't Alone
Writing can be lonely, and your characters can only do so much for you. Having extra support and someone there to encourage your writing can make the process so much more fun and exciting. Writing shouldn't be lonely it should be shared!
