How Are My Writing Goals Going for 2025? A 6 Month Check In

Halfway through the Year...Again.

Every year I write this post and every year I'm shocked at how fast it has gone by. This year is no different. I blinked and we are half way through which means it's time for my mid year check in with my writing goals.

I typically have these posts more structured but this year I'm feeling a little more rouge so bare with me.

At the start of 2025 I really wanted to spend time writing again. In the year 2024 I had some personal matters sneak up which stole a ton of my time and energy leaving not much left when it came to writing. My trilogy I'd been working on was at a stand still because my original plot got away from me and I didn't know where else to go with it. Not only this, but I was unhappy with the blog. Posts I used to put time and effort into where now pushed into a writing block at the end of the year where I would knock out 26 posts in under 2 weeks. To say the least it was a lot at once and the quality was poor at best.

Back in February of this year, while laying in bed, I decided to do something about it. I realized I was in a rut and the only person who could get myself out was me. So what did that mean? Well that night, I laid in bed and came up with 40 new blog post ideas not including my series posts. This means I have content for the next several years. I put each idea into an unpublished post which allows me to work on it whenever I feel like. To my surprise I've already written 9 posts for 2026 and I'm not slowing down anytime soon.

I also have came up with a list for all my posts including updating links, photos, uploading to an USB, editing and creating Pinterest posts. I used to put a ton of effort into getting people to the site and that slowly faded out the last few years, but doing these simple things can increase SEO which means bringing more people in. Currently, I'm only working on the Pinterest pins which started at 127 posts and has dwindled down to less than 40. I try to do 10 or more per week and once those are done I'll start on the other items.

I gave the website a quick update including a new header image, a search bar, an updated author page, as well as an updated projects page. I've had the blog since November of 2020 which means it hasn't been changed in almost 5 years. I decided dusting off the old site and adding a few things here and there would spice it up, and for me, it has.

Then, for my story, I really hit a dead spot until I figured out I needed to go back to my original idea and build out from there. I brainstormed a ton and realized some things either needed to be combined while other plot points needed to move to the second or third book. This ah ha moment really pushed the story forward. I still haven't had much time to work on it, but I do have it moving in the correct direction which will be easy to pick up on once I do.

Finally, for my writing journey, one thing I've noticed about myself is I love starting a project from beginning to end without much interruption. One of the reasons why I'm having such a hard time is because I haven't completed anything in this manner in years. That's when I got the idea I should create another prompt book. After being inspired by a short story idea, prompted by trying to write an interesting first sentence, I figured why not make a book to help others using the same idea.

After all of this, I do feel back into the groove when it comes to my writing and creativity. I'm excited to see what ideas I will think of next.

In case you are wondering what bucket list and goals I've completed so far this year that aren't related to writing? Well I booked tickets to see the Jonas Brothers this October and I've been on the hunt to see a moose for the first time ever(I've been so close!).
