Is this Worth the Money?

Last year my computer decided to slowly stop working. To the point that sending an email took about 20 minutes. Frustrating as it was I decided to get another computer. After hitting the purchase button I realized I hadn't done a very good job conducting my research on the latest writing tools when I got an ad for the Kindle Scribe. At the time, because my computer had been so crappy, I had been resorting to writing on my phone or by hand. I had missed the feeling of the old school paper to pen and figured why not go for it. I can have my laptop and the Kindle Scribe.

I waited until Black Friday when it will be about $70 cheaper and, if you purchase on a Discover card, another 6% off if you pay your bill on time. With that I took the plunge.

It arrived quickly and I could tell from the packaging I was going to like it. But was that the case once I got it started? Here are some Pros and Cons of the Kindle Scribe

Pros of The Kindle Scribe

Books and Writing

One of the many reasons I purchased the Kindle Scribe is because I read and write a ton. Instead of having notebooks or a physical copy of a book I can have it all in one. Books I've had on my list since high school are on there and the 16 GB is enough space to last a lifetime of reading for me.

Easy to Tote

Similar to an actual notebook, the Kindle Scribe, is lightweight and easy to tote around. It can slid into a purse or backpack and be on your way. So far it's been great and I can take it anywhere!

Cover Accessories

When I purchased the Scribe there was also a sale on protective covers. I caved and got one. In doing so, I saw so many other covers one can personalize as well as keep their Scribe safe.

Stylus

In purchasing you have the option to get the basic stylus or the premium which has a few additional features. You can also buy these separately. They aren't cheap but they make writing so much easier.

Purchase Online and Instore

Purchasing a scribe can be easy. With Amazon's quick shipping as well as other stores such as Target stocking them, you can get one if you really want without fear of it being out of stock.

Drawing

You can do more than just write-you can also draw! Different notebook features allow you to set the notebook how you want including blank pages. So if you want to draw something while you write, you can! You can even download it to your computer.

Set Up

From start to finish I believe the set up was a total of 15-20 minutes of which the Kindle takes you through step by step. It was very easy and something anyone can follow.

Cons of the Kindle Scribe

Expensive

Like I mentioned, I waited to get mine until Black Friday, but even so the Scribe cost $270. This isn't cheap especially when you have paper and pens easily accessible.

Premier Stylus

Even though the Scribe itself won't be out of stock, the type of stylus might be. I really wanted a premier stylus but they always seem to be out of stock and way more expensive then I care for.

Scrolling

Since you can have all your Kindle books pulled up, you can scroll down to see everything you have in your library. In doing so, when you scroll, the books delay so you don't know if you passed something or not. It can be annoying but is manageable.

Charging

Like any electronic device you do have to plug it in once when the battery dies. Unlike an actual notebook you do have to keep in mind where to keep the charger(which doesn't come with a port btw), and watch the percentage drop as you read or write. I've notice it drops about 3% per hour which isn't bad especially since I have the lighting turned up on it.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I love my Kindle Scribe! The pros outweigh the cons by far. I'm still getting used to it and can't wait to see what other features it has(such as downloading PDFs). If you're thinking of getting one, I highly recommend it, but wait until it goes on sale!
